Forklift and Pedestrian Safety

Posted: September 28, 2026

Forkifts and pedestrians often work in the same busy warehouses, loading areas, and industrial facilities. Clear traffic procedures and constant awareness are essential for helping prevent collisions and serious workplace injuries

  • Keep pedestrians in designated walkways and separated from forklift traffic whenever possible
  • Forklift operators should maintain a clear view of the travel path and watch carefully for pedestrians
  • Slow down at intersections, doorways, blind corners, and other areas with limited visibility
  • Use horns, warning lights, mirrors, and other safety devices to alert workers when appropriate
  • Never walk or stand beneath elevated forks or loads, and maintain a safe distance from operating forklifts

Separating pedestrian and forklift traffic, maintaining visibility, and staying alert can significantly reduce the risk of workplace accidents.
