Haws SP152SC Double SPDT Proximity Switch Kit
The Haws SP152SC Double SPDT Proximity Switch Kit provides electrical activation monitoring for both sections of a compatible Haws combination emergency shower and eyewash or eye/face wash. The kit includes two magnetically operated, single-pole double-throw proximity switches—one for the shower activation valve and one for the eyewash valve.
When either emergency fixture is activated and its ball valve opens, the corresponding switch changes state and sends an electrical signal to a separately supplied alarm, building-management system or control panel. This allows facilities to monitor shower and eyewash activation without installing a flow switch directly in the water-supply piping.
The SP152SC is an electrical proximity-switch kit. It is not a freeze-protection bleed valve, complete alarm, horn, strobe, control panel or emergency shower/eyewash fixture.

How the SP152SC Works
Each proximity switch is positioned near the activation mechanism of a ball valve. A magnet attached to the valve mechanism holds the switch in its normal state while the emergency fixture is inactive.
When the shower or eyewash is activated, movement of its valve changes the magnet’s position. The associated SPDT switch then changes contact state, providing normally open, normally closed and common connections for the facility’s alarm or control circuit.
Because the SP152SC includes two independent switches, activation of the shower and activation of the eyewash can be monitored at their respective valves. The way those signals are displayed, combined or reported depends on the field-designed control and alarm system.
Compatible Haws Equipment
Haws lists the SP152 Series for use with many of its emergency shower, eyewash and combination-fixture families, including the following:
- 7260B–7270B and 7260BT–7270BT
- 7261–7271
- 7324
- 7360B–7460B, 7360BT–7460BT and 7360BTWC
- 7361–7461 and 7460
- 7777 and 7778B
- 8100, 8122, 8122HWC and 8123
- 8130, 8133H, 8163 and 8169
- 8300–8309, 8300CRP–8309CRP and 8309WC
- 8317
- 8320–8325, 8320CRP, 8330 and 8336
- 8605WC
Some models require the switch bracket to be installed on customer-supplied piping, and certain models use a different switch orientation. Consult the current Haws compatibility table and installation instructions before ordering or installing the kit. Contact Haws for equipment not listed in its compatibility table.
Is the SP152SC the Correct Switch Kit?
Choose the SP152SC when you need to monitor both activation valves on a compatible combination shower and eyewash and the control system requires SPDT contacts.
- SP152S: One SPDT switch for either a shower or an eyewash
- SP152D: One DPDT switch for either a shower or an eyewash
- SP152SC: Two SPDT switches for both sections of a combination unit
- SP152DC: Two DPDT switches for both sections of a combination unit
Installation and Electrical Requirements
Installation includes mechanical positioning of the switch brackets and magnets as well as field wiring to the alarm or control system. Grounding or bonding must be provided in the completed installation, and conduit raceway connects to the switches through their 1/2-inch NPT female connections.
All electrical work must be completed by qualified personnel in accordance with the Haws installation instructions and applicable electrical codes. After installation, activate the shower and eyewash separately to verify correct switch movement, signal transmission and alarm or control-system response.
Adding a proximity switch does not replace the routine activation, inspection and maintenance requirements for the emergency shower and eyewash itself.
Hazardous-Location Information
Haws identifies the double-hermetically-sealed switches as acceptable for Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C and D and Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F and G, Type 4X applications. Haws also publishes Class I, Zone 2 and ATEX markings for the switches.
Hazardous-location suitability applies only when the complete installation, power supply, conduit, wiring methods, connected equipment and environmental conditions satisfy the applicable certification and electrical-code requirements. Installation in hazardous locations must be performed by qualified personnel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the SP152SC a complete emergency alarm?
No. It provides two proximity-switch outputs. The audible alarm, visual alarm, control panel, monitoring equipment, power supply and field wiring are supplied separately.
How many switches are included?
The SP152SC includes two SPDT proximity switches—one for the shower valve and one for the eyewash or eye/face wash valve.
What does SPDT mean?
SPDT means single-pole double-throw. Each switch provides common, normally open and normally closed electrical contacts.
Can it identify whether the shower or eyewash was activated?
The kit provides separate switches for the shower and eyewash valves. Whether the connected system displays them as separate activation points depends on the field wiring and control-system design.
Does the SP152SC measure water flow?
No. It senses valve-actuation movement magnetically. It is an alternative to installing a flow switch in the water-supply piping.
Can it be used on freeze-resistant Haws equipment?
Haws states that the SP152SC is not intended for its freeze-resistant models.
Does the kit fit every Haws shower or eyewash?
No. It fits many Haws models, but compatibility and installation details vary. Verify the fixture model against the current Haws compatibility table before ordering.
Can it be used on equipment made by another manufacturer?
Haws certifies these switches as accessories for use in Haws-manufactured assemblies. Compatibility and certification should not be assumed for another manufacturer’s equipment.
