Portable Eyewash Stations
 
Portable eyewash stations are self contained eyewash stations that do not require plumbing.  Portable eyewash stations that meet the latest ANSI Z-358.1 performance requirements are often the choice because they can easily be installed on a wall or rolled around on a cart.  When installing an eyewash station, be sure to install at a location that is accessible within ten (10) seconds or approximately fifty five feet.  Portable eyewashes offer versatility and are less expensive to install.  Eyewash types include either being filled with water and bacteriostatic solution with the solution being changed at least every six months or installed with an eyewash cartridge which has a shelf life of 2 years.  Cartridge style eyewashes require virtually no maintenance for 2 years and are offered in a purified solution or strerile solution which is 100% contaminent free.  Added features may also included the ability to capture the waste water as the eyewash is dispensed.  Others would require a container under them to capture the waste water during use. 
 
The need of a portable eyewash extends within a facility and beyond into remote areas or construction sites.  OSHA directive STD 1-8.2 mandates that battery maintenance and charging areas have an eyewash station.  Workers who are on the go who are using hazardous materials, chemicals for exterminating, herbicides and pesticides and workers on remote loading docks all have a need for a portable eyewash station.  Areas needed for eyewash stations include:
