| PPE Personal Protective Equipment is an absolute necessity in today's work environment. As of May 15th, 2008, the Final Rule on Employer Paid PPE came into effect that mandates that employers pay for PPE in the workplace. Employers need to be aware of their responsibility to insure a safe and secure work environment. Determining and supplying the proper PPE Personal Protective Equipment is their responsibility. Even if the employee elects to bring their own PPE, it is mandated by OSHA's ruling, 1910.132, that the employer inspect and approve the protective wear. Since we know that every environment dictates the specific PPE Personal Protective Equipment necessary, we need to be aware of the choices available for the protection of each industry.
As OSHA stipulates, "Protective equipment, including PPE Personal Protective Equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact."
