N95 Particulate Respirators
 
N95 Particulate Respirators (NIOSH N95 Respirator) are probably the most common of all NIOSH respirators  This N95 type filters out at least 95% of airborne particles.  Workers in an industrial setting or in the medical profession wear N95 Particulate Respirators for protection against harmful airborne particles or airborne diseases.  If they are NIOSH approved, then they have been properly tested and maintained.
 
CDC infection control guidance documents recommend that healthcare workers use N95 Particulate Respirators which are the minimum required NIOSH respirators to protect healthcare workers against diseases spread through the air, such as SARS or Turburculosis (TB).  In addition, N95 particulate respirators may serve as flu masks or even as avian flu masks (bird flu masks) to gard against h5n1 flu.
