these Draeger tubes are quick to use and results are immediate. When testing for alcohol, it is recommended that the test is given at least fifteen minutes after the last drink is consumed. Immediately after consumption of alcohol, a high alcohol content is present in the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. This mouth alcohol level would provide a false alcohol level if the test was to be administered within fifteen minutes of consumption.
To perform the test for alcohol with the Draeger tubes, the tips of the tube are opened and the tube is connected to the the breathing bag. The person being tested exhales into the tube and inflates the bag. If alcohol vapor is present in the exhaled breath, the yellow indication layer turns green.
