Safety Tip of the Week:

An eye wash station is necessary in all industries that handle chemicals and hazardous materials.  The temperature of the flushing fluid is just as important outdoors as indoors.  Most are concerned about the temperature in the winter going below 60 degrees and not being ANSI compliant, but another concern is the flushing fluid exceeding 100 degrees.  This can happen in industrial areas without air conditioning and outdoors where sun  exposure heats the water to uncomfortable levels.  When installing an eye wash station, take into consideration all seasons and climate changes.

Lab Shower

A Lab Shower should be installed in a laboratory or very close to the lab. A lab is not safe without one.  If a chemical or infectious material splashes or is spilled on someone in the lab, an emergency shower is the first line of defense in washing and diluting the harmful substance from the body.

There are several types of lab showers available for the safety of workers in the lab:
  • Recessed Shower Head in ceiling with recessed wall activator
  • Recessed Showers with ceiling pull rods
  • Combination lab showers
  • Lab Showers that are wheelchair accessible

With all of the choices available that can fit perfectly in a laboratory setting, having a small room or space should not be a deterrent for providing a shower in your lab.
